We will begin our first month traveling abroad in Norway. The following is a rough outline of our itinerary for that first month.
Why are we starting here?
Ryan wants to chase his Viking roots and we both want to explore the beautiful countryside in Norway. We decided to partake in a homestead work exchange because it will be a chance to get to know a Norwegian family on a personal level, see a more rural side of Norway, and it will be a complete contrast to our desk jobs. Also, the work exchange is a great way to stretch our money (especially in expensive Norway!) because we will be recieving room and board for our work. We are excited to take in all the beauty of Norway.
August 5:SFO>JFK>LHR>OSL
Leave San Francisco, our apartment, our families, and embark on a three part journey to Oslo, Norway.
August 6:Arrive in Oslo
August 10:Oslo>Røra
Taking the 8 hour train ride up to Røra to do a work exchange with a family. We will help them around the house, in their garden, with their kids, or with anything they need help with. In exchange, we get free room and board and time to explore on weekends off. Beats a desk job any day. For more information about other work exchanges check out helpx
August 31:Røra>Bergen
We will venture by train to beautiful Bergen to start a tour of the Sognefjord.
September 1:Sognefjord
September 2:Bergen>Oslo
Travel by train back to Oslo
September 3-5:Oslo>Drammen
Visit some of Ryan’s extended family in Drammen.
September 5:OSL>AMS
Fly from Oslo to Amsterdam and begin a new journey there!

I AM SO FLIPPIN’ JEALOUS!!! I fell so in love with Sweden and Finland, Norway’s neighbors… loved the trees, the rocks, the temperature, the simplicity, even the colors of the houses reminded me of my Grandma. Definitely where my heart is! Versus your Mom, whose heart is in Hawaii 🙂
