Our first experience with the country of France was with a wonderful family in the village of Saint Mihel. This is a tiny village of only 100 people about one hour (by fast train) from Paris. The family (Monika, Etienne, Chloe, and their go Lego) were incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home.
We ate three large and delicious meals a day! Monika is an excellent cook so she kept us full with things like escargot, soups, desserts, and classic French meals using a lot of ingredients from the garden. The escargot wasn’t exactly our favorite but we made up for it with Nutella cake!
We did some work in their garden like weeding and cleaning their land. Inside, we helped paint a few rooms, clean, and put up lots of shelves. When we weren’t busy we explored the beautiful French countryside on bike and saw some World War I trenches.
We only spent about a week and a half with them but we enjoyed it all!
