As a traveling woman one of the most important things to pack is a functional yet fashionable purse. I have carried cross body camera bags in the past for trips but wanted something that looked less bulky and was lighter weight.
Why I made the purse
I searched for the “best” travel purse high and low and nothing fit the bill. I wanted a purse big enough to hold my laptop but small enough to use day to day. Since I want to pack as light as possible I didn’t want to bring multiple purses. Most purses I found like this were well over $100, which is not ideal when you’re trying to save money! So I decided to make my own! I thought, “this won’t be that hard” even though I have only been sewing for a few months. But I decided to go for it.
Why it works for traveling
I created a fold over purse which is great for traveling because I can wear it over my shoulder to hold more things (think carry-on for airplanes) or wear it folded over for day to day. It is also a super light weight purse that can be rolled up and stuffed in my backpack if needed. All in all the purse only cost about $45 including the canvas, linen, zippers, and leather straps. This was definitely worth the many hours it took to come together.
