After sucking every last bit we could out of the Oslo Pass, our map was in tatters and our pockets were full of tickets. Rather than throw it all away and lighten our packs we decided to turn it into a book. We made it on the train ride from Oslo to Trondheim. It’s construction was a French Fold of the map with pieces of memorabilia, tickets, and other tourist brochures thrown in, then sewn together with a Japanese stitch binding.
The cover is a post card of the Madonna by Edvard Munch, Rachel’s favorite painting of his. After seeing it in person at the museums, she couldn’t resist buying a post card. Rather than sending it to someone we decided to repurpose it as the cover of this book.
I constructed this book on a train, which is not the best workstation. The fold down tables are small, everything is constantly moving, and I forgot a few supplies back in the states that would have made my life a lot easier. All in all, I’m satisfied with what came out of this little experiment.
