Barcelona was probably our favorite big city throughout Europe. It is located on the Mediterranean and surrounded by huge mountains. We fell in love with the scenery and the cool vibes of the neighborhoods within the city. We were able to stay with the brother of a friend we met at our workaway in Norway so that was a life saving connection.
Our favorite sites in Barcelona were the Gaudi buildings. La Sagrada Familia being on the top of the list. We spend nearly three hours walking back and forth through the church in awe of everything we were seeing. Pictures don’t even do it justice, every single aspect was thought out and connected to the master plan of the building. Door knobs, tiles, joints, windows, sculptures, absolutely everything was different but still part of the bigger picture. Being able to walk along and see some of Gaudi’s building was crazy!
There are plenty of cool neighborhoods throughout the city. In the Revel neighborhood there are tons of cool stores and cheap restaurants. Tapas are everywhere and if you find the right bar a $2 beer will also get you a small pincho to go with it. Here we had the best coffee I had the entire time we were in Europe, it was so good Rachel actually asked to go get some one morning! It was just a small coffee shop close to where we were staying. The fruit drinks at the market were another thing we kept getting as an afternoon snack.
Be careful here though, pick pockets are rampant and thieves are there to make sure you’re paying attention. Rachel and I sat down on a bench and I lifted my camera to take a picture, within that split second of time someone swiped my pack, I was able to notice and chase the guy down so we didn’t lose anything, but we were on edge the rest of the time.
We loved Barcelona and could see ourselves living there. It is a big city with everything from the beaches to the mountains. We stayed a week but could have easily stayed longer!
